My name is Jillian Bohenek, and I am an undergraduate student at The Pennsylvania State University in State College. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism. I aspire to be a broadcast meteorologist and news anchor.
It was fifth grade when I got bitten by the weather bug. My class was assigned to read a chapter on weather one night, and I didn’t want to stop reading it. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be a meteorologist when I grew up.
When I got to high school, I developed a strong passion for theatre. Ever since, that passion has grown. I feel as though broadcasting is almost like acting because it is important to engage the audience and tell a story. Theatre has also helped me develop strong communication skills that will be an asset to my broadcasting future.
During my sophomore year at Penn State, I decided to double-major in broadcast journalism. The most important job of a broadcast meteorologist is to communicate the science to the audience in a way that they will understand. I hope to accomplish that in my future career, combining my communication and theatre skills, along with my Penn State Meteorology and Communications education.
